The Cloverleaf Interchange

Good examples

Cloverleaves, one of the most basic highway junctions, are actually surprisingly hard to build. To this day, of all RealHighway interchanges I have seen on the internet, there have only been two that were actually good. The first of the two was created by the user spot over at SimCity 4 Devotion:

I really like this one because while it is very compact, resembling many 20th century cloverleaves, its curves are surprisingly smooth, thanks to the confident usage of FAR. This is a pretty, practical interchange that is perfect in all regards. The creator uses the RHW-6S B2 ramp for exiting, right-turning vehicles, but recognizes the more appropriate usage of the RHW-8S E2 ramp for entering right-turners.

The second Good Cloverleaf comes from SC4D user Pioneer, who built the following giant:

In addition to being beautifully decorated, his take on a high-capacity cloverleaf makes a near professional impression. It has every feature mandated by large levels of traffic, including collector lanes to handle the weaving between entering and exiting vehicles, running alongside and relieving the main highways.

Like spot, Pioneer uses B2 and E2 ramps in the proper way, though with the exception of the bottom entrance ramp. Perhaps there's some other off-ramp further down the road that prevented him from using RHW-8S. Apart from that, the only possible complaint I could have, would be that the curves could be a bit smoother – but of course, that's really only possible in the latest versions of the NAM.

What is good about these two examples is mainly the symmetry as well as the smoothness. They both have their ups and downs – spot's cloverleaf is compact, but probably limited in its capacity, whereas Pioneer's has capacity approaching that of a turbine interchange, but as a drawback, it is huge.
